The Steel Angels are a talented group of young people who study and perform the Steel Pan Instrument under the direction of Mrs. Angel Lawrie. The Steel Angels look forward to performing at the NEF Festival at The University of Akron in March.
The band students range in age between 8 and 17 and work together as professionals to bring an entertaining atmosphere to any event. Each of the students have used Music Therapy to conquer their challenges and achieve success. Their challenges include Autism, ADHD and other related learning difficulties. The group has been together the past three years, and their success is overwhelming!
The Steel Angels have performed at The Akron Civic Theatre, The Columbus Convention Center, Ravenna Balloon a Fair, The Ohio Valley Festival of Steel and the Spire Institute. Their Akron Civic performances include a concert with Harry Belafonte, Pan Rocks with Tracy Thornton, and opening up for the University of Akron Steel Band. The Band has been featured on WKSU Radio, The Akron Beacon Journal, Public Radio programs as far as New York City and on the internet. Their recordings have been featured on internet sites around the world - Switzerland, New Zealand, Australia, and Trinidad.
The Band has just recorded their first CD with a popular label and will be released in April of 2014. All of the instruments that are played by the Steel Angels are made and tuned by Master Pantuner Steve Lawrie.
